For the WHEELER Pro team, which has focused on the Crosscountry discipline since this year, the current season 2016 was the most successful in the team's history. The team achieved third place in the overall Swiss Bike Cup overall. In the individual scores of the athletes Ramona Kupferschmied even achieved the category win and Joris Ryf won the silver U23 cup.
The new WHEELER Pro Team 2017
Two decisions have decisively influenced the team composition 2017. After the resignation announcements by Martin Gujan and Esther Süss from the Crosscountry Circus, the WHEELER Pro Team had to ask a question: How should the team align themselves in the future?
It was clear from the start that the WHEELER Pro Team still exists in 2017 and continues to focus on the crosscountry discipline. It focuses on the national resp.International racing series and championships. WHEELER knew from past years where the strengths of the team lie. In the promotion of future generations! The athletes' choice in the past has proved this several times. For example, Jolanda Neff was part of the WHEELER Pro team until 2012. Lars Forster was also part of the WHEELER family as a U23 driver in his last year. The vision "development team" will consequently continue to pursue WHEELER in the future.
Teammanager, Manfred Kupferschmied, this late summer has received more than 50 high quality applications from talented drivers from all sorts of categories. From all these applications, the WHEELER Pro Team 2017 was composed as follows:
- Ramona Laura Cupferschmied , so far
- Luca Schätti, new
With Manuel Fasnacht on the side of Joris Ryf in the category U23 men, the WHEELER Pro Team has a new leader in the small, powerful force. Joris will be contesting his second season in the category U23 in 2017 and Manuel his last, before he gets into the elite category in 2018. Last season Manuel let his class flash several times.
Ramona Laura Kupferschmied changes to her first year U23 in 2017. After a violent fall in the summer and a leg extension over the winter months, Ramona will try to build on the successful results of 2016 in the new category.
We were able to win the reigning U17 vice-champion 2016, Luca Schätti. In 2017 he started his first U19 (Junior) category.
WHEELER Pro Team 2017 without elite riders
Elite riders are no longer available in the colors of WHEELER. As previously announced, Martin Gujan and Esther Süss have announced their resignation as an elite driver from the discipline of Crosscountry. Martin had to decide between an attractive job offer and another season. After his results in the past years no longer meet his expectations, he has decided to resign. He looks back on a 20-year sports career, which he already started with WHEELER and ended 2016 with WHEELER. We wish Martin a good start into the new life and thank you for the cooperation in the year 2016.
Esther Süss, on the other hand, does not have enough of the sport yet. So she announced her resignation from the crosscountry circus already at the last MTB World Championship in Nove Mesto, but not from the MTB marathon. In the future, Esther would only like to put on long-distance races, with which she triumphed in the past with brilliant results. Since WHEELER has clearly committed itself to the discipline of crosscountry, there was no adjustment or extension of the contract. WHEELER and Esther are therefore going separate ways from 2017 onwards.
Since 2007, Esther was in the colors of WHEELER on the road and could equally successively celebrate success. For example countless races at Cape Epic in South Africa, triumph in countless national and international marathon races and championships, 5th place at the Olympic Games London 2012, podium finishes at Crosscountry races of the Swiss Bike Cup, but also with The team got some titles for WHEELER. An era is coming to an end and WHEELER would like to thank Esther for the successful cooperation in the past 10 years. WHEELER wishes you all the best for her personal and professional career.
To Fabian Paumann: His contract is no longer prolonged due to the orientation as a junior team and due to the lack of success in the past 2 years. We would also like to thank Fabian for his services on behalf of WHEELER and we wish him all the best for his personal and sporting life.
The WHEELER Pro Team will also be supported by co-sponsors in 2017, whom we would like to thank for this support and look forward to further cooperation:
We would also like to thank all members of the family who supported the WHEELER Pro Team in the past season, as well as in the future. Without all these services, professional racing would not be possible.
Thank you very much!
