2017/05/20-21, last weekend the first round of the UCI MTB World Cup took place in Nove Mesto, Czech. Manuel Fasnacht, Joris Ryf and Ramona Kupferschmied were in the U23 category for the WHEELER Pro Team. Luca Schätti could not start as a junior unfortunately. Joris first made a name for the track. He was excited. Ramona drove her first World Cup as the youngest U23 rider. She already knew the route from the 2016 World Cup, as did Manuel Fasnacht.
On Saturday at 10:00, the start of the U23 riders with the number 12, Manuel entered the race. After the start, he lost some places. But then he could drive constant lap times and finally crossed the finish line to 31th place. This position was below his expectations. Also with Manuel started, Joris with the starting number 44 was able to make up some places at the start and then drove constantly round and round. He finished his first World Cup of the season on the 34th place. Satisfied with himself and his result, he enjoyed every single round.
On Sunday at 10:00, the start of our U23 rider Ramona, unfortunately, the start did not succeed. She was first pinched and then pushed into the barrier. As the second, she had to roll the field from behind. Round by round, she fought her way forward and finally finished the race on the 33rd place.
The mood in Nove Mesto was simply unique and the weather also played.
Luca Schätti also drove a race at the EKZ Cup. In Wetzikon, he was able to keep up with the elite riders in super weather, and finished the race in third place.
The next World Cup race in Albstadt (D) will take place next weekend. There will be Junior Luca at the Junior Event. We're glad.
